Follow That Grape Series - Chardonnay

Chardonnay the true test of terroir. Follow the grape that many love from it’s world famous home in Chablis through the maconnais region of Burgundy, then out of France and into its polar opposite style of the sun drenched Adelina Hills of Australia. Journey with this amazing grape back to the United States and see how a wine can taste like Yogurt or cream through a chemical fermentation (sounds super  exciting right?  Wait till you try it!) and learn how wood can impact the flavors in USA as well. Week 1 will be sure to keep you excited, and not stain your teeth!

Follow That Grape Series - Spooky and Spicy Reds

It's The Lindsey Lohan week, our sassy and spicy little redheads.  Spice is key as we taste through syrah (or is it shiraz), cabernet franc, Tempernillion and Granche.  Know why these grapes add color, body, spice and excitement to your blends and see if you can find a new favorite amongst the hidden gems.  Grapes claimed by different countries, grapes that change names and add cute animals on the labels, and wines that will leave your taste buds jumping are the highlight of this week!

Follow That Grape Series - Malbec/Merlot

Malbec/ Merlot- regardless of what Paul Giamatti told you over a decade ago, if anyone doesn’t order merlot this week I'm leaving! Merlot is like your senior prom date, it’s a soft dance partner that is full of beauty and is sure to make the night exciting 😉, but unlike your prom date Merlot will not disappoint you and run off with your cousin… sorry for the personal reflection… this is the star of some of the best wines in the world will leave you speechless once you give it another chance. Showing it with Malbec this week is to differentiate the often confused grapes.  By the end of this week we hope you call back your old prom date and tell him or her, “you know what, i'm happy you left me years ago, and now i'm glad I found your friend."

Follow That Grape Series - Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet, the King of wines.  All Hail (wait we really don’t want any more hail) the king of tannin.  Can you imagine a better way to stain your teeth? I can't, lets travel the world in search of the grape that started a classification, the grape that made America famous, and the grape that makes me super happy on Friday evening with a good cigar and bad conversation!  Cabernet from Bordeaux to south Africa, from the dusty Rutherford mouth feel to the almost lamb like south American, cabernet! Sorry if I haven’t romanticized this with eloquent wording, its just a damn good grape that speaks for itself!

Follow That Grape Series - Riesling/Sauvignon Blanc

Sweet, sassy and completely dry? Who says Riesling has to be sweet, every dry a bone dry Alsacian one? Or maybe this week we can learn some fun german words like Spatlese, and Trockenbeerenauslese? Rieslings make for an interesting discussion of sugar and its effect on wine.  This week we will travel to France, Germany, Canada and Washington state trying the “sweet” little Riesling grape.  But if that’s not exciting enough bonus this week lets see why some sauvignon blancs smell like something your pet may have done, yet others smell like the peppers on 3 am seven eleven nachos! Sauvignon blancs and Riesling will run this week as we see why these aromatic grapes can be so unique as the travel the world.

Follow That Grape Series - Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir, that fungi Little raspberry! Ever wonder what a mushroom tastes like in wine, or how about wet autumn leaves?  Travel with us to Burgundy to learn just that, don’t like mushrooms, this grape gets more exciting as it gets hotter- let’s see what it tastes like in the blazing summer sun of Tuscany?  I bet they will even change the name of the wine there just to confuse us! Still wondering about that raspberry? let’s travel to the central cost of California to find that profile in the same grape! And just to come full circle  let’s show you the imagination of wine makers in the pacific north west as they try to recreate that iconic Burgundian style. This grape never disappoints and shows how winemaking, temperature and soil can effect a wine! Join us week 2 and make our friends from Sideways happy that you are not drinking Merlot.
